The Last Food of England
Twenty first century drover of highland cattle. Ghillie Dubh ('Dew') leads the way in a Cumbrian lane. Philip follows. The cattle are found in parts of England occupied by Scots during the depressions, and a new generation of livestock owners intent on a growing niche market. This breed is a proven swimmer and less ferocious than it looks: perhaps the long journeys, undertaken by their ancestors with man, have made them good companions. The body beneath the coat is small. The beef is lean and old fashioned.
